We celebrated the start of our 10th year with a gala night at the Royal Welsh College! With performances from current students, awards for every class, and Lorraine's famous raffle. It was a spectacular evening of fun and reflection on the journey that's brought us here.

We have two venues: The Talent Shack and The Shack Studio, home to our Dance classes.

We teach all aspects of the performing arts including technical theatre arts. We run volunteer programmes and have scholarships and bursaries available that low income, local families can access easily.

The Talent Shack CIC (Community Interest Company) is a not for profit organisation providing opportunities for young people within the community to connect with the performing arts.
Our aims are:
    • To bring quality, structured performing arts classes and strong production values to local young people in an inclusive way
    • To widen the accessibility and experience of the Arts through performance and play
    • To provide a valuable creative learning space for the community within a social and inclusive environment, in person and online.
    • To target services to deprived communities within Cardiff and South Wales and communities who don’t find it easy to access quality drama and dance provision – such as children from low income families

Our last summer school of the summer, The Tempest, Our last summer school of the summer, The Tempest, is complete! It’s been a joy to have Elise and Steph from Taking Flight Theatre Company collaborating with Talent Shack this week to create a half hour version of Shakespeares The Tempest with a soundtrack that included Rod Stewart, George Michael, Dolly Parton, ABBA, Grease and West Side Story! Combining Shakespeare with BSL and having Miriam interpret on stage, and part of the action, and comedy worked beautifully. . Taking Flight run a Youth Theatre for deaf and hard of hearing young people and we are working behind the scenes to combine powers and create an inclusive Youth Theatre for all based at the Shack. Well done to the cast for working so professionally with a complex script and creating such compelling performances. Hello, I’m Shelley, I’m 52, from Penarth with 3 da Hello, I’m Shelley, I’m 52, from Penarth with 3 daughters - aged 22, 18 and 9. I trained as an actor and worked in mainly TV and mainly comedy but my love is theatre. I set up The Talent Shack nearly 11 years ago now and The Shack Studio 3 years ago. We are a CIC, not for profit and our ethos is to create high standard youth theatre for ages 4-19. We want to inspire with inventive stage craft, teaching skills that are transferable but will also set you for a career as a performer, but mainly support young people through their childhood giving them skills and resources to help them survive and thrive! We run term time classes in dance, acting, singing, plus performance groups in Youth Theatre and Musical Theatre, staging 12 productions a year all in our own theatre on Penarth Road, Cardiff. We have created our own unique holiday workshops - from ‘in a week’ summer schools in our theatre to Dance and Do creative childcare in our dance studio. We often work with schools to support teachers with the delivery of expressive arts and love putting together bespoke workshops. We are a small team of 8 teachers / creatives and the whole vibe is family, community and creativity. New term at the Shack and Studio starts Saturday 5 New term at the Shack and Studio starts Saturday 5th September! We have so much going on and now is the time to join! Whether it’s Musicals, plays, acting classes, dance classes, singing lessons… we’ve got it all! In our own theatre and dance studio in Freemans Parc on Penarth Road, Cardiff. Dance classes are £6.51 an hour, Shack classes are £11.24 an hour, one to ones work on a slightly different scale so get in touch about those. Fees payable monthly in 11 equal amounts September to July. Full bursaries are available across all classes meaning you have £0 to pay, if you need it. Not means tested, just ask. 1 simple form to fill out. Spaces are filling up fast for the new academic year so book your taster now - nothing to pay upfront. What a week we had last week at our K-Pop Demon Hu What a week we had last week at our K-Pop Demon Hunters in a week summer school! We got to play with all our lighting effects and projections to create a concert equal to the world of K-Pop!! It’s been lovely to welcome so many new faces to the Shack and Studio this summer, and of course see our term time gang for just some pure joy of theatre! August 24th-28th SHAKESPEARE IN A WEEK with Taking Flight Theatre Company Monday to Friday, 10am-4pm Recommended age 10-18 but will accept younger if they have experience performing and want to perform Shakespeare specifically. This is an inclusive week with support from Taking Flights creative enablers so we welcome neurodivergent as well as deaf and hard of hearing young people. So far we have run: Play in a Week Wicked For Good in a Week x 2 15 Dance and Do Days Across our 2 venues, the theatre and dance studio, we have welcomed 283 young people. We have given away 68 free places and 52 discounted places. Not bad for a half way mark! Busy week ahead with K-Pop Demon Hunters in a Week at The Talent Shack and 5 Dance and Do days in the Shack Studio. A child told me today they felt sorry for me becau A child told me today they felt sorry for me because all I do is sit in my office “sending emails”. My reply was “but the emails I send mean that you and all these other children can come to The Talent Shack and have all this fun. So I actually really enjoy the work I do.” The child accepted this with a nod and off they went to have some fun. Absolutely no need to feel sorry for me kids!
